At Storm King Contracting, Inc., SAFETY is our number one priority. We have developed a strong safety culture that is reflected in how we do business. A safety culture is defined as “the practice of safety procedures and behaviors by all levels of a construction organization.” We firmly believe this. We feel that this is a supreme responsibility of all levels of our organization. It is not just a corporate goal but is a requirement in everything we do.
We have adopted ZERO ACCIDENTS as our only acceptable goal. We believe that the prevention of accidents is our “moral obligation”. We recognize that the protection of our employees, property, and the public are essential to the successful completion of every project we undertake. Accident prevention is a responsibility that is shared at every level of our organization, from the president through our craft work force. At Storm King, we believe that all accidents are preventable. Our goal continues to be ZERO ACCIDENTS.
We are able to maintain a successful safety record due to
our commitment to safety as demonstrated by:
- A written and enforced safety program.
- A full time safety team and safety committee.
- Assigned job site safety coordinators and competent persons.
- Weekly safety training at all job sites.
- Required OSHA 10 hour training for entire team.
- Regular job site safety inspections and audits.
- Periodic driver safety training and First Aid/CPR training.
- Individual and team safety incentives and awards.
- Provide employees with necessary safety equipment and PPE.
- Monthly safety committee and supervisor meetings to discuss safety issues.
- Require subcontractors to comply with written safety program.
- Members of GBC and AGC construction trade organizations.
- Have been awarded numerous safety awards.
- Our current EMR is .67, one of the lowest EMR’s
for a contractor our size in NYS.
At Storm King Contracting, Inc., safety is not just an idea or a goal. As our President/CEO, Mr. Jeff Baker, said: “It is the way we do business around here.”
